This introductory backpacking trip starts at the NY/CT border, heading North on the Appalachian Trial. There is a small stream to rock-hop across before starting our gradual but steady ascent up Ten Mile Hill to an elevation of 1,000 feet. From the top of Ten Mile Hill, we are rewarded with a nice view of the valley below. We'll continue down the other side, along switchbacks and stone steps, until reaching the Ten Mile River Campsite, where it meets the Housatonic River, our home for the night.

Campfires are prohibited on the Appalachian Trail in CT, however this campsite has plenty of places to relax and enjoy the river.
The campsite is also near a small beach, an open field perfect for stargazing, and a Lean-To shelter. Crossing a footbridge over the Ten Mile River, we can continue north to explore several scenic viewpoints along the Housatonic River.

On day two, we'll wake to the sounds of the river, have breakfast, and pack up camp. The hike back to our starting point is about 3 miles South, following the White Blazes of the scenic Appalachian Trail.
There is limited cell phone service in this area.

*Return times are best estimates, and can vary based on the speed and fitness level of the group.
