This introductory backpacking trip starts at the NY/CT border, heading North on the Appalachian Trial. There is a small stream to rock-hop across before starting our gradual but steady ascent up Ten Mile Hill to an elevation of 1,000 feet. From the top of Ten Mile Hill, we are rewarded with a nice view, and  as we continue down the other side, we follow switchbacks and stone steps down until reaching the Ten Mile River below. Our hike continues along Ten Mile River for a short distance before meeting up with the Housatonic River, offering some great options for places to rest, have a snack, enjoy the river, and even visit an Appalachian Trail privy if nature calls. Crossing a footbridge over the Ten Mile River, we'll continue north, following a side trail along the Ten Mile River for about a half mile further. At Bulls Bridge, a wooden covered bridge, there are several scenic viewpoints to explore before turning back. We'll set up camp at a nice shaded campsite along the river where there is plenty of access to water. The campsite is also near a small beach, a big open field perfect for stargazing, and a Lean-To shelter.

On day two, we'll wake to the sounds of the river, have breakfast, and pack up camp. The hike back to our starting point is about 3 miles South, following the White Blazes of the scenic Appalachian Trail.
