"Mike is the best hiking guide my family and I have ever had! He took us through trails that were just breathtaking and fun, taught us the basics of hiking and kept our energy high! He went at our pace and helped us in some tricky spots when needed. If you are looking for someone to show you a great hike and make you feel safe, Mike is the guy! Best trip ever!"

Michael "Bombay" Papa
NYS Licensed Guide & Wilderness First Responder

Born and raised in New York's Hudson Valley, I have been hiking, skiing and exploring the mountains throughout the Northeast for over 20 years. In 2016, I completed a 5 month thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail, a 2,189 mile footpath from Georgia to Maine. After thousands of miles on trail and hundreds of nights camping, I started guiding to continue the adventure and help others enjoy the outdoors.

Why do I love hiking so much? And why I think you’ll love it too! I hike mostly for the adventure, and the challenge. I also love the beauty and peacefulness of nature. Hiking engages all of your senses and cannot be fully captured in words or photographs. I enjoy exploring wild places, pre-dawn alpine starts, the crisp smell of pine trees in the air as I'm approaching tree-line, and especially mountain tops with 360 degree views. Helping others experience that "on top of the world" feeling you get in the mountains, is for me the greatest reward.

When I'm not hiking, you can find me skiing in the mountains of Vermont, traveling abroad,  or riding my motorcycle around New England. Before starting 360 Guiding, I coordinated a Supported Employment program and coached the NY Raptors, a special ice hockey team. I'm proud to offer customized hikes and classes for people of all abilities. Like hockey and other sports, hiking has many therapeutic benefits and is a fun addition to any fitness routine.
