The Pemi Traverse is not for the faint of heart, but if you're looking for some of the best views in the Northeast, look no further. The full loop is over 30 miles and has about 10,000 feet elevation gain. The rugged, rocky terrain with steep slopes, long ascents and sections of rock scrambling, make the views hard earned and the payoff that much more rewarding. It's not uncommon for the peaks to be in and sometimes even above the clouds, and the region is known for its extreme weather. We'll be traversing many miles above tree-line throughout the trip, which will give us plenty of opportunities to score some spectacular 360 degree views.

Day 1
Meet at Lincoln Woods Trailhead around 9:00am for our first
big climb up and over two 4,000 footers. We'll hike about 7 miles before settling into our alpine campsite.

Day 2
After breakfast and coffee in camp, we'll regain the ridge and follow the Appalachian Trail to the famous Franconia Ridge - a long exposed section of trail with sweeping views in every direction. We'll hike about 8 miles today as we climb up and over 4 more 4,000ers.

Day 3
We'll continue along the Appalachian Trail over two more prominent peaks with spectacular views if the weather is clear. It's about 6.5 miles to the next campsite, so we'll plan to arrive in camp a little early to get a good tent site and give our legs a bit of a rest.

Day 4
Our final day is the longest, with about 12 miles to hike, including a steep descent along the brook. We'll climb two more 4000ers (one before sunrise), with another stretch above tree-line, offering sweeping views of the entire range.

Optional Add-On:
Lodging and dinner in Lincoln, NH the night before start of the hike, to organize gear, food and packs.

*The alpine zone does not have trees to provide protection from the weather, so extra precautions must be taken when traveling above treeline. Weather can change very quickly in the mountains, especially at higher elevations. If the weather or visibility is poor, your guide may suggest an alternate route, and depending on the weather forecast, we may opt to complete the same route in reverse, or bailout to an alternate campsite, shortening the overall loop.
