Online Booking
Hiking & Trip Info
What is the booking process?
- Our trips are private departures - you choose when, where, and with whom to go hiking. Call us or use the trip planning form at the bottom of this page, if you'd like guidance about which hike to choose.
- Use the calendar above to book online or contact us to see if your preferred dates are available. We sometimes can shift things on the calendar to make your dates work.
- You'll receive a confirmation e-mail with instructions for payment and links to sign the electronic release of liability waivers. Pre-Payment is required for all trips to save the date and begin planning custom itineraries.
- We'll discuss ideal options and settle on the best itinerary, eventually confirming the trip details and exact meeting location. I'll typically send Google Maps and Waze GPS links before the hike. For overnight trips, you will receive links to a suggested packing list and meal preference form.
- The day of the hike, we'll go over the route and some safety items. I'll distribute gear, snacks and water. For backpacking trips, we'll carefully organize and pack our backpacks, saving as much weight as possible.
- Let the adventure begin! Plan to have fun, get dirty, see cool things and make memories that will last a lifetime.
Clothing Recommendations
Dress in Layers:
To be prepared for changes in the weather and colder temps at higher elevations, it is recommended to always dress in comfortable, lightweight, and fast drying layers. The key to staying dry and comfortable while hiking is to manage your temperature and minimize sweating by adding or removing layers of clothing.
Light Colored, Synthetic Materials are Ideal:
Athletic and running apparel works well in the summer, while fleece and wool make great insulators.
Moisture wicking and fast drying materials include Polyester, Polypropylene, Spandex, & Nylon.
It's best to avoid cotton or jeans, as they do not keep you warm if they get wet. "Cotton kills!"
Protection from Wind & Rain:
Outer layer (shell) should be water and wind proof. I always carry a lightweight hat, gloves, and rain jacket.
Keep your Feet Happy:
Lightweight trail runners or breathable hiking boots with wool hiking socks is the perfect combo for me.
*Sturdy footwear is required - sneakers are OK, but please no flip-flops.

Group Sizes
Group sizes are kept small to ensure everyone's safety, minimize our impact on the trail, and improve the overall enjoyment of the experience. I recommend limiting group size for day hikes to 15 people. Groups larger than 15 people, are encouraged to split into smaller groups. For large groups, I can plan two or more hikes of varying difficulty, that can be offered consecutively, or at the same time with an additional guide.
Backpacking and camping trips are limited to a maximum of 8 participants. DEC limits camping group sizes to a maximum of 8 people at most lean-tos and campsites. Larger groups may be accommodated at designated group campsites.
