Michael "Bombay" Papa NYS Licensed Guide & Wilderness First Responder
Born and raised in New York's Hudson Valley, I have been hiking, skiing and exploring the mountains and parks throughout the Northeast for over 15 years. In 2016, I completed a 5 month thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail, a 2,189 mile footpath from Georgia to Maine. After thousands of miles on trail and hundreds of nights camping, I started guiding to share the experiences I've gained and to help others enjoy the outdoors.
I’m proud to offer customized trips for people of all abilities. On Sunday's, when I'm not guiding, you can usually find me coaching the NY Raptors, a special hockey program. Like ice hockey and other sports, hiking has many therapeutic benefits in addition to being a fun addition to any fitness routine.
Why do I love hiking so much? And why I think you’ll love it too! I hike mostly for the adventure, and the challenge. I also love the beauty and peacefulness of nature. The experience of hiking in the mountains engages all of your senses and cannot be fully captured in words or photographs. Standing atop a mountain feels like standing on top of the world. Looking out over vast wild landscapes, especially those with breathtaking 360 degree views, is for me the greatest reward.
